Principles of Protective Services
& Detail Operations
This program was designed to prepare those seeking to enter the field of Executive/VIP Protection services for the realities of the industry and the challenges that they will face. Through a balanced curriculum of both classroom lecture and hands-on training, students will be familiarized with the fundamentals and functions of a protective operation. Students will learn about the dangers of relying on reactive skills over pro-active preparations. The primary focus of every protective operation is always focused on risk avoidance and threat mitigation.
Today’s protection specialist is an individual knowledgeable in a wide range of specialized skill sets. During the first 2-days students will examine the three most commonly taught protective theories throughout the world and analyze them side-by-side with both contemporary and historical assaults on protectees or AOP.
Also in the classroom, students will explore the duties of the advance agent, learn how-to conduct an initial and on-going threat assessment, understand detail function and formations for both presidential and limited man-power size details. Attendees will identify and understand the unique agent traits sought by established protective teams throughout the world, as they examine skill-sets common to all and tactics required.
Topics include:
Introduction to the Protective Services Industry • Threats Considerations and Assessments • Observational Skills • Physical Security Countermeasures • Advance Man/Team Operations • Detail Formation, Function, and Organization • Marketing and Working in the field
NOTE: This course is focused on cultivating operational knowledge and the student's understanding of protection methodology. While this course addresses tactics for response to attacks on a principal (AOP), this course does not focus on firearms skills, unarmed defense, escape and evasive driving. Most students entering the executive protection field have developed these skills through previous experience or may acquire these skills through other courses. See AF-2 Tactical Engagements for course information focused on protective services firearms skills.

Student Comments
“In December of 2002, I retired as a major from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa, Fl. During my career, I was able to attend Secret Service Dignitary Protection Training, Executive Protection Training through Kobetz & Associates in Winchester Va., and numerous seminars and workshops dealing with the topic. Some was more theory oriented, but most was hands-on.
In my new role as Director for Corporate Security, the responsibility for protecting our executives, both at home and abroad, falls to our team. All of us have attended the S-2 Intelligence Institute courses in Executive Protection and believe them to be excellent. Tim O'Rourke is an experienced instructor who challenges his students with common sense strategies and superior techniques..”
